How to Revamp Your Concrete Garage

So, have you got a concrete garage that you believe needs revamping? There are many ways of revamping your concrete garage to make it into a place that seems like a brand new space. You can transform a garage into something more than just a storage area or a place to keep your cars out of the rain and snow. You can turn it into an entertainment place for guests, a woodwork shop, a mechanic’s shop, a safe place for kids to play (set up model trains, etc).

The first thing to consider about revamping your concrete garage is the flooring. Do you need to have repairs made to the concrete floor? Cracks in a concrete floor make for a less than sturdy foundation. A cracked concrete floor in a garage is not just unsightly, it is unsafe. It can cause people to trip and fall, and falling on concrete is no laughing matter. Those cracks can also be inviting to pests (like wasps and ants). Water can collect in them, too, leading to water damage of items in the garage. So, definitely research ways that you can repair that concrete floor if it looks as if it needs it.

Perhaps you don’t like the look of the concrete floor of the garage anyway. Concrete is pragmatic but often not easy on the eyes. And we’ve just alluded to the unhappy consequences of falling on concrete. You may want to overly the concrete flooring with wood panelling, or vinyl flooring. If all you want is to have a place to store your cars then you may not care about these kinds of flooring, but if you want to have a showroom, entertainment place, place for the kids to play, and so on then you should give serious consideration to revamping the look and feel of your garage flooring by overlaying the concrete with other material.

You will be using your garage for some type of storage, so why not install sturdy shelving in your concrete garage? Nice wooden shelves look better and last longer than those old metal closets or a wall board with the metal hangers. A concrete garage is sturdy and can easily handle having nice wooden or nice metal shelving permanently installed. Don’t neglect the idea of possibly putting in more storage space in the garage ceiling, too.

Consider having your garage insulated if it isn’t already. Insulation is often neglected in garages, but if you’re going to be spending time in there beyond parking or going to your car, you will want to feel comfortable in there.

Consider also how you may want to have more lighting fixtures or electrical outlets put in your garage. Do you currently have adequate lighting and outlets to supply your needs given the amount of time and the types of activity that you will be engaging in within your garage?

Yes, you can revamp your concrete garage and turn it into something more than a place to keep your cars. All it takes is some planning and resourcefulness.
